an often made mistake in the KG. board #456521
I find that this mistake, or one a lot like it, often occurs in the KG.the interesting mate at the end may be a little diffucult to find for some of the lower rated players, because it's counter-intuitive to what were used to.

Um... what was the point of playing f6 in that game?
caldazar 13 ( +1 | -1 )
All I can see... is that perhaps Black was trying to go for ...f6, ...g5, h4, hxg5, ...fxg5. Of course it doesn't work since the h5-e8 diagonal is wide open.

This doesn't just happen in the KG, e.g.: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 f6? 3. Nxe5 fxe5? 4. Qh5++-

d-b-p I am in full agreement with death-by-pawns, f6 is a truly awful move and, having played it, Black deserved to lose quickly. In that position I would have played d5 as I feel that this is the best counter for Black and can give White an uncomfortable game.

Kind regards,

Cal
