Message: I've gotten into playing some FR Chess lately at Instantchess.com; just a few days really.
Anyway, my strategy on opening has been to find where the Rooks are. At first I would open with one of those pawns. Now instead I like to put forth two a pawn next to a Rook occupied file, hoping for similar response and having a great lever. But also to see where King is at least, even Queen. I'd really like to look at it all for a bit but they cancel your game so fast there, sometimes I dint even get opened as it is.
Wondering what others are opening with? Any great strategies etc. And, pardon me for asking, but what position(s) do you prefer (and remember its a family site :)
I think I would like to play the position with Rooks on two of the four most center ranks. Then K & Q beside them, or like Kf1,Qe1,Rd1,Rc1 perhaps. With N's on their natural spots and B's in the corners. Seems the most volatile to me. but I've yet to get either. Anyone else?

PS When I was playing a lot of Postal Chess a decade or so ago, I came across transcendental chess which is oh so similar, but I think maybe both sides were mixed differently?! Maybe not, but the way I looked it over was. Couldn't do it at all! But maybe its the like mix or maybe the last few years of blitzing, this seems doable & working up into the 1300's already (from 12oo, ye-ow! :)

Message: I found an opening cheapo. if they have a Rook on b8 or g8 and your Bishop is aimed at the a7 or b7 square from the start, with a N or B on the a8 or h8 SQ, then often you can just unveil your B to take that Rook pawn and win an Exchange + Pawn for it. Possibly a free Rook. ouch!

Message: I've played FR chess a couple of times...won both times.
It seems to me that chess principles still apply; but, you can get some really weird tactical and positional situations, especially in the opening and sometimes in the middlegame. You just mentioned one of many.
Nobody in their right mind would allow such a position under regular chess. But in FR, the position is basically set up that way. I think the game is good; but I prefer regular chess. That's probably because I'm so familiar with openings. It just feels awkward to just throw out a whole phase of the game. Maybe if I played it more often, then I might like FR better. Regardless, it's good. ——— Magnus Carlsen: The 19-Year-Old King of Chess — At age 13, he was the third youngest chess grandmaster in history. A few years later, he was already beating the world’s top chess players. And on Jan. 1, 19-year-old Magnus Carlsen of Norway will officially become the youngest person in history to earn chess's No. 1 ranking. TIME caught up with the grandmaster at a tournament in London to probe the mind of a chess genius. When people find out that you are the top-ranked chess player in the world, do you have to deal with them assuming you are 40,000 times more intelligent than them? Yeah, that can be a little annoying. I try to tell people that I am like them. I am not some sort of freak. I might be ...
