(UPDATE: Carlsen has clinched first place with a draw against Teimour Radjabov of Azerbaijan in Round 9.) Pearl Spring is part of the Grand Slam Chess Association, a confederation of the strongest chess tournaments of the year. Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria, the No. 1 player in the world, is in second place, two points behind. Nanjing is also hosting the second women’s Grand Prix tournament.
